30 Days of Truth ~ Day 11

Something people seem to compliment
you the most on.

My mad homemaking skillz.

Yes, I am that woman. I knit. I sew. I cook. I bake. I can. I make jam. I let my boys rolls around in blue chalk. I repaint old furniture. I recover secondhand chairs with funky fabric. I make throw pillows from old flour sacks. I have mastered the art of couponing. I make my own vanilla.  I make a fish taco that makes grown men weep with joy. I make my own bread.

And I love every minute of it.

I wish you lived close so you can teach me some of your mad skills. The only skill I can do that you do is make my own bread. I'd love to learn how to make vanilla, yummy food, and the art of couponing.

Wow...I want to be you when I grow up ;-)

Are those homemade tortillas? I want your recipe. I also want to know how you get your cake pops candy coating so smooth. I've made them before but can't get the coating to look right. Oh, and I didn't even know you could make your own vanilla...how do you do it? You are amazing!!!

@ Desi: Vanilla is mui easy to make. Get some white rum or vodka, take 10 or so high quality vanilla beans, split them in half & shove them in the bottle. Put lid on. Wait 6-12 months and then tada!!! Vanilla. (P.S. I take the labels off so my Visiting Teachers don't think I have booze sitting around the house.) And here's the recipe for the tortillas: http://sostinkinhappyfood.blogspot.com/2009/08/big-fat-texas-style-flour-tortillas.html The coating on the cupcake pops? Hmmm...I think I added in a bit of coconut oil to the candy melts and just tried to keep it warm as I worked with it. I will pay more attention next time!

@ Terra - Making bread is awesome!!! It's the beginning of other many good things.

:) Thanks, Jen. Though after what I just went through with the dissertation I am not sure *anyone* in their right mind would want that!

That being said, I am pretty sure you have carved out your own fabulous corner of this thing called life, too.

I have my mama to credit for my love of all things domestic and of school.
